Black lacquered tubular metal base with black leather seat. Magnificent curved backrest in glued laminate. Chairs with a chic, refined design. Very beautiful and imposing pair of lion-dogs, China, 20th century. Superb turquoise glaze. Guardian lion statues are traditionally found in front of Chinese imperial palaces, imperial tombs and temples. Depicted as a couple, the male resting his paw on a decorated ball representing supremacy over the world, and the female holding a small lion representing education.

Beautiful oil on canvas painted in 1966 by the French artist Gaston Girault. It depicts the Notre-Dame de Grâce chapel in Honfleur. In 1023, Richard II, Duke of Normandy, asked that a chapel be built on the heights of Honfleur (Calvados), as an ex-voto. Since then, it has been dedicated to Notre-Dame de Grâce, patroness of Honfleur and its sailors. The canvas is dated and signed lower left. Very well framed.

Magnificent, imposing bronze-patinated plaster cast of The Thinker after Rodin, signed Hautecoeur ( Louis Hautecoeur 1884-1973). Louis Hautecoeur was curator of the Musée du Louvre and published numerous works on art, in particular on the Musée Rodin. Mid 20th century.

This bear, sculpted by the Ainu people in the 50s and 60s, is depicted with a freshly caught salmon. Ainu art was studied in its own right from 1926 onwards. The bear is the most venerated deity in Ainu culture. When a bear cub was captured while hunting, it was brought back to the village to be raised until it was old enough to return to the sacred world through the Iyomante ritual.

Wooden Ainu carved by this eponymous people, indigenous to northern Japan (Hokkaido). Circa 50-60. Signed under the leg. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Ainu were forced to settle in Hokkaido to cultivate the land and become farmers. Bears played an important role in their lives, providing them with food and clothing to meet their basic needs. Thus was born their line of handcrafted sculptures, which began in the late 1940s.
